WEEK #39: The Tortoise Story Continues...

Image
We chose to skip over Week 38 since nothing significant really happened at the house except a couple of re-dos, basically a damaged window sill, a replaced cracked window, and enlarging the wine cooler wall enclosure (a second time). Apparently the window sill was damaged when they installed the quartz counter in the Command Center. It has since been removed and replaced, and looks fine now. Kitchen Area The plumber(s) finally arrived and all of the sinks, faucets, toilets, etc. were installed the later part of last week. Jan still needs to check each room to make sure what we bought was actually installed (right model, color, etc.). The bar sink and faucet is a smaller version of the main sink. We went with black granite sinks, similar to what we had in the Texas house. After 7 years, the sinks still looked great, and unlike stainless sinks, the granite sinks tend not to show scratch marks. The faucets are a 'touch' on/off technology, with internet and Alexa-enabled connectiv

WEEK 37: A TEENY, TINY BIT MORE ACTIVITY

Finally , after hearing all of the nightmare stories regarding appliance delays and shortages (yes, they all have computer chips in them!), we've started seeing delivery of real appliances being installed in the house. As you can see below, the dishwasher is in, French oven and steamer oven is in, and the all-important beverage cooler is installed. Still in the boxes are the double-door refrigerator/freezer, ice maker, and the gas cooktop. Lots of holes to fill, but we are still waiting for cabinet glass doors to arrive before the installs can be completed. The electricians have been in and out sporadically installing outlets in both the backsplash and countertops, and also managed to install a couple of pendant lights in the process. I almost feel like these guys are doing us a favor by showing up! The main island quartz work appears to be done absent the polishing of the edge seams. Backsplash seaming behind the countertops turned out okay, but still needs some finish work on the

WEEK 36: Finally Starting to Come Together!

More activity is underway this week! The next step in the process has been the elusive countertop installation. Without this step, appliance installs can't happen, and given the appliance shortage on new homes, we are anxious to get ours installed before they "fall off of the truck somewhere". KITCHEN Quartz countertops are now set, and following that the front side will be re-faced by removing the trim and resetting the front piece with a designer plate. This will eliminate the gaps now showing in the unfinished island. The pantry area and bar area (across the pic) all have the same matching quartz counters, per the design.  As does the Command Center off of the Kitchen area. DINING ROOM The beam in the Dining Room area was finally installed. This will have a chandelier  hanging down from the center point (where the wiring is at.) Given the weight of the chandelier, hope it holds! OTHER      Other items like doors, laundry room countertops and bathroom vanities are also
