WEEK 11: Pick Up Sticks!

Well, up they go! Had a huge surprise on Monday as we drove by the house and saw the progress the crew has made in two days! They have almost completed the outer walls layout, which should take a couple of additional days. Sorry about our car, it got in the way!

Since they are almost a week behind the proposed schedule, I was told they brought in 20 guys to start the exterior walls layout. With the exterior walls part you don't have framers getting in each other's way. Once they get that done, the crew will skinny down to about half, start the internal framing detail, and start hoisting the roof joists. A simple perspective from the garage and front door courtyard; again, fairly simple, nothing exotic.

Different angle looking at the front guest en suites. We are going to have to get used to walls being much less angular than the ranch house in Texas, among other things 😂.

Let me know if these are starting to get boring. Another shot from the garage side of the house.

Going to have to talk to the building supervisor about site cleanup. This is in the kitchen looking out towards the backyard through what will be 16 foot sliding doors.

Reverse shot from the bedroom slider setup of the master bedroom leading into the master bath and closets.

Dining room window wall (laying down). Exterior wall construction is 2"x6", which will allows us to foam almost 6" of insulation throughout the exterior and garage walls. Given the heat index of where we are, this should really help keep the cooling costs under control in the summer. We did the exact same thing in Texas, and the heating and cooling expenses were fairly nominal. The house also faces east/west, which will give us a sunrise in the master bedroom, and a setting sun in the front yard. During the summer this means the hottest part of the day will be on the garage and unused guest rooms, and a shaded backyard and pool. Yes!

Roof joists were delivered today (midweek); now waiting for the crane to hoist them into place.

More roof joist view.

That's all for this week. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll have a roof on the house. See ya!
